GOOD FRIDAY PILGRIMAGE: STATIONS OF THE CROSS DOWN MAIN STREET

Twenty-three Sarasota congregations will participate in a Stations of the Cross pilgrimage down the center of Main Street on Good Friday, April 7. An estimated 1,000 pilgrims will gather for the event, which includes stops at 14 Stations with readings, prayers, and songs. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Douglas F. Scharf, Bishop of the Episcopal Church Sarasota Area, the head of the Catholic Deanery, Father Jerzy 'George' Suszko, The Right Reverend Deborah L. Allen, Superintendent of the South West District of the United Methodist Church, and Rev. Doctor Kenneth Blyth, Dean of the Evangelical Lutheran Churches in America's Mid-Gulf Conference will be participating along with over twenty other clergy representing 14 denominations. Mayor Kyle Scott Battie and Sarasota County Commissioner Joe Neunder will present the First STATION.

Pilgrims gather at 7 a.m. and the pilgrimage begins at 7:20 a.m. on Main Street at the Regal Hollywood movie theater (1993 Main St., Sarasota, 34236). This will be the 22nd year the Sarasota Ministerial Association joins Church of the Redeemer in planning the event. Redeemer’s Friday Men’s Breakfast Prayer Group started the tradition in 1996. Fewer than 15 people participated that year, but now, hundreds of people experience this Sarasota tradition every year. The pilgrimage is three quarters of a mile long.

For those who would like to park at the final station (Church of the Redeemer, 222 S. Palm Ave.), complimentary Siesta Trolley service will transport pilgrims from Redeemer to Regal Hollywood starting at 6 a.m. The pilgrimage will conclude at about 8:30 a.m., when everyone will be invited to attend Morning Prayer at Redeemer.

Let the Kentucky REVIVAL started February, 2023 flourish in Sarasota and in your hearts.

Sarasota Police Department escorts will control traffic and provide security.
