Sarasota Man Pleads Guilty to 20 Years in Prison for Attempted Murder

Post Date:01/04/2019 11:33 AM

David Evans, 29, of Sarasota, pleaded guilty on Thursday to 20 years in prison in connection to an attempted murder that happened in May 2018.

On May 2, 2018, at approximately 3 a.m., Sarasota Police Officers responded to 1476 19th Street, Sarasota, in reference to a shooting.  When Officers arrived, they found the victim with a gunshot wound to the face.  The victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital by paramedics and survived.

The victim’s girlfriend told Officers they had a party for the victim’s brother and Evans was in attendance.  Witnesses said Evans was very intoxicated and arguing with everyone.  Witnesses added Evans swung his fist at the victim who defended himself by taking Evans to the ground.  Several people at the party forced Evans outside.  Evans began making threats and left the area.

When Evans returned to the home a short time later, the victim was in the driveway moving chairs when Evans shot him from the yard next door.  Evans fled the area on foot and was arrested later the same day.

Evans is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail.
