The Sarasota Police Department is making an all-call for citizens interested in taking part in the Sarasota Police Department Fall 2019 Citizens Academy! 

Have you ever wanted to learn more about the Sarasota Police Department K-9 Unit?  How about learning more about the Criminal Investigations Division, Patrol Division or Traffic Unit?  The Sarasota Police Department Citizens Police Academy is now accepting applications for the fall classes which begin Wednesday, September 18, 2019, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

The Sarasota Police Citizens Academy is a unique opportunity designed to offer citizens a chance to learn more about the Sarasota Police Department.  The Citizens Police Academy meets once-a-week, for 10 to 12 weeks, on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Sarasota Police Department Headquarters, 2099 Adams Lane, Sarasota.

Participants will get a behind the scenes look at how the Sarasota Police Department works and functions.  Participants take part training in defensive tactics, traffic stops, K-9, drug awareness, firearms, marine patrol and many other units.

Applicants must be 18 years of age and have no felony convictions or outstanding warrants.  A valid driver’s license is required and applicants are subject to a background check.  The Sarasota Police Department Citizens Police Academy is a free event.  Binders and polo shirts will be provided to participants.
