Sarasota Police Department Chief James Rieser is pleased to announce Deputy Chief Rex Troche graduated on Friday from the Senior Management Institute for Police (SMIP), a leadership program hosted by the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF). Deputy Chief Troche joined more than 400 other police leaders from across the United States in Orlando.
A demanding three-week course, SMIP’s curriculum addresses topics including diversity, political management, organizational strategy, performance management, organizational change, leadership, managerial problem-solving, strategy implementation, leadership communications, career planning, negotiation, the budgeting process, critical incident response, media relations, officer wellness, and new policing strategies and innovations.
“The opportunity to learn from professors from prestigious institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard, and, Columbia University, gave me additional foundations and strategies to implement for our agency moving forward,” said Deputy Chief Troche.
SMIP is a program of PERF that provides senior police executives with intensive training in the latest management concepts and practices used in business and government. It also features discussions of the most challenging issues facing law enforcement executives today. The curriculum for SMIP is a fast-paced, reading-intensive program that requires a considerable commitment in class and after class through independent and group study assignments.
