Detectives with the Sarasota Police Department are investigating a fall at a construction site at 301 Quay Commons, Sarasota, at the Bayso construction site. The original 911 call was made at about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023.

Preliminary investigation shows a man, 21 years old, was painting on the 18^th floor of the construction site and, for reasons unknown, fell to the fifth floor.  911 was called and Sarasota County Fire Department responded but law enforcement was not dispatched.  Officers with the Sarasota Police Department were dispatched at about 2:15 p.m.  The man was taken as a trauma alert to Sarasota Memorial Hospital (SMH) and later died.  The man was taken to SMH before Sarasota Police Department detectives arrived.

When detectives arrived at the construction site, they interviewed witnesses, and Crime Scene Unit technicians examined and photographed evidence at the site. These are normal procedures for accidental deaths.

Currently, the Sarasota Police Department believes this is an accidental death. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating.
