Sarasota woman arrested for weekend shooting

UPDATE: June, 7, 2023 –  2 p.m.

A Sarasota woman has been arrested for a shooting that happened in the 700 block of Central Avenue, Sarasota, shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023.

Carrie Ecklund, 48, Sarasota, was arrested by Sarasota Police shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023. She is facing charges of Criminal Mischief for damage greater than $1,000 and Possession of a Firearm while in the Commission of a Felony.

One victim was grazed by a bullet in the arm during the Saturday morning shooting and has non-life-threatening injuries.

Surveillance video from several cameras on the property showed Ecklund in possession of a black handgun during the incident. One camera clearly shows Ecklund loading the firearm and then walking toward where the shooting occurred. Detectives also located a bullet fragment inside the building.

A hurricane-proof window, valued at $3,240.00, was found shattered at the scene. There was one bullet hole in the window.

Detectives do not believe there were other victims or suspects associated with this shooting.

Ecklund is behind bars at the Sarasota County Jail.

Sarasota Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 700 block of Central Ave, Sarasota, shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 3, 2023. There is one victim with minor injuries. 
 
The victim is not cooperating with detectives. No suspect is in custody at this time. Investigators are working to identify suspects, witnesses, and any other possible victims. This is believed to be an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger.
