The Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA), in conjunction with the Florida Police Accreditation Coalition (FLA-PAC), met on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Omni ChampionsGate in Orlando and awarded the Sarasota Police Department with re-accreditation status.  This status will stay in good standing with CFA for the next three years.

In March 2023, a team of assessors from CFA conducted a thorough on-site assessment of the Sarasota Police Department.  They examined all aspects of policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services.  CFA assessors found the agency in compliance with all applicable standards.  Assessors found no out-of-compliance issues. 

Accreditation is a voluntary process and is not mandatory for law enforcement agencies. The Sarasota Police Department has to comply with numerous standards to receive accredited status, and many standards are critical to life, health, safety issues, and best practices.  The Accreditation Manager for the Sarasota Police Department is Marissa Moore.

“This accreditation status is further evidence of the exemplary standards we hold our officers to at the Sarasota Police Department,” said Chief Rex Troche. “Our agency is committed to upholding the best practices set forth by the CFA. We’re proud of this achievement and our goal is to keep this status in years to come.”

In their final assessment report, the CFA accreditation team wrote, “It is clear the Sarasota Police Department has a genuine commitment to the accreditation process. This commitment was apparent when interacting with members of the agency, touring locations, and reviewing files. Members of the agency were found to be engaged in the accreditation process and driven to provide excellent, professional, fair, and dedicated service to the residents and visitors of Sarasota.”
