The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a death that occurred while Sarasota Police were taking a subject, a white male, 50, into protective custody. 

Shortly before 4 Sunday morning, Sarasota Police responded to the 1600 block of Devonshire Lane, Sarasota, for a report of a suspicious person. 

The subject died while in custody. 

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the in-custody death, which is standard protocol. The subject’s name is not being released as this is an active investigation. No further information can be released at this time.
